Handpicked for you...

Imagine yourself at a crossroads of sophisticated culture, and style with virtual borders; a dash of hot and exotic North Africa, a smidgeon of Italy, a sense of Paris or Province – and at every turn, your curiosity piqued about the origin of the artwork, the collectables and furniture. La Maison du Sud is an embracing home in many respects – literally and figuratively – for it also embraces your attention too – from its wonderful black and white gallery of photographs collected over the decades to Flemish oils, including a family ‘spirit’ in the form of a portrait of the owner’s grand uncle.
This sense of embracing guests extends to the way the home is designed offering life at a pace you dictate. There are secluded courtyards redolent with the fragrance of jasmine and shady patios and verandas where a riot of cerise bougainvillea blooms in the heat. There are lawns and a pool house area where a family could play out of earshot of other guests. There’s also a library and a piano in one room, a black and white roomscape with a pop of red to break the monochrome. The invitation? Collapse elegantly into an armchair to read quietly or play your favourite Bach or Beethoven. The main en suite bedroom returns to a cool and calming colour scheme of white on white and wood with a dramatic modern bathroom in grounded earth colours.
But mostly, it is a house that understands family life and invites two couples with two or three children between them, to holiday here.
Designed with windows that catch light from all compass points, the house is set high in the hills of Hout Bay with an elevated view of the harbour, sea and mountains. You experience a wonderful sense of place at this elevation watching the weather roll in so that you may plan your day at home or explore the surrounds.

What we love!
This is a house for all seasons; rooms are designed to capture the best light and garden areas set out to ensure you can be wind-free in areas or chase the sun.
The house has intriguing, at times eccentric character and feels more home than simply a getaway.
Hout Bay, the Bay Harbour market, access to fresh fish at Mariner’s Wharf, activities such as horse riding and boat expeditions for sunset cruises or to Seal Island and World of Birds Sanctuary, are only minutes away. Dungeons Beach is a local attraction if your surfing skills are above par. Hout Bay is also the gateway to Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the wonders of the Western Cape. Apart from Hout Bay Beach itself, Llandudno beach is 6 km away, Constantia Village 9 km away for shopping and central Cape Town just over 20km away via one of the most scenic coastal routes in the world.
There are literally dozens of restaurants in Hout Bay village from casual eateries to fine dining.

What you need to know
There are two distinct sections to the house with an open bridge to connect them. The pool is also not covered and set away from the house down a flight of steps. The house is therefore recommended for children from 7 years of age upwards.
