Handpicked for you...

Down a narrow and quiet lane in picturesque Simon’s Town is where you’ll find this delightful cottage. A striking pink gate, painted in a hue called ‘Rose Madder’ from where the cottage’s name originates, greets you upon arrival. The holiday home of fine artist Sue Greeff and her partner Jonny Biderman-Pam, Rose Madder cottage is the ideal refuge from city life.

The 160-year-old house has been lovingly restored; the high ceilings and white walls make the place feel spacious and open and the beautiful sash windows allow in generous light. Exquisitely furnished with floral prints in varying textures – from the comfortable couches to the striking quilts – and an array of artworks, the home has a definite feminine touch. The two bedrooms are equally roomy yet cosy at the same time, each with king size, extra-length beds and 100% crisp white cotton bedding.

The enclosed courtyard is the perfect spot to enjoy lunch al fresco, listening to the gentle sounds of the water feature and reveling in the peacefulness of the surrounds. Or rinse off in the outdoor shower after a walk to the beach. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need for your stay, including Smeg appliances, a gas hob, a Nespresso machine and milk frother, as well as Le Creuset pots, that’ll impress even the most discerning foodie.

Outside the kitchen is another outdoor area, where you can light up a fire for a barbeque on warm summer evenings and in the colder months, enjoy watching the natural waterfall gently trickling with your morning coffee. The front stoep is a great spot for people watching or curling up in the late afternoon sun with a good book and a pot of tea (or a G&T!).

Ease into the evening with a soak in the vintage Victorian bath, which was recently re-enamelled.

When you’re ready to venture out, you’ll find a variety of restaurants and cafes in walking distance, serving delightful local and international fare – most of it unfussy but absolutely delicious. There are also quirky shops and boutiques for those who enjoy a browse or spot of shopping, and a leisurely stroll sees you at the beach.

Lovely cottage, and well fitted out and it feels real and lived in. It is lovely. Lovely spaces inside and outside, and lots of nice touches with the Nespresso machine, very practical little SMEG fridge, ice in the freezer, and just all sorts of ‘lived in’ things. We really loved it. Many thanks
