Beautifully designed and with dramatic views over the sweet-grass plains of Mjejane, Savannah Red is a private haven in the bushveld. Set on the Mjejane Private Game Reserve, just over an hour’s drive from Nelspruit or (Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport) it’s a surprisingly beautiful setting, taking its name from the surrounding red-earth savannah. Free-flowing architectural lines, double-volume entertaining spaces, an upstairs viewing deck plus a sunken boma and shaded lapa offer excellent game viewing from this contemporary private lodge – so good at times that it’s been coined an ‘armchair safari’! Accents of raw stone, weathered wood and muted shades make it a calming bush haven, with ample space for family and friends to gather together for a weekend in the bush. Â
What we love!
• The layout: it’s clean, open and spacious. Bedrooms all face the pool and there are romantic chill areas to escape to if you want some privacy. In the heat, air-flow right through the house keeps you cool.
• The tempting pool with its island-style decks suspended over its cool waters.
• That it’s a quick and easy drive from Nelspruit through citrus groves, sugar cane fields and granite outcrops before descending into classic bushveld that borders the Kruger. Game drives within Mjejane Private Game Reserve are included daily, but you can also take a quick 45-minute drive to Malelane Gate and self drive in Kruger (or book a game drive).
Need to know…
Please note Savannah Red can only be booked for sole-use by you and your loved ones, and not on a room-by-room basis.
• The five-star graded lodge doesn’t face the river but game viewing over the sweet grassy plains is wonderfully rewarding as animals feed here as they pass by throughout the day.
• This is a self-catering lodge but has a team of two housekeepers to make your stay a truly relaxing one.
• Two game drives a day are included.
