A Cape country style trout farm hidden in the Du Toit’s Kloof mountains
Fizantakraal’s location is utterly private, up a winding road into the high peaks of the Du Toit’s Kloof mountains, near Paarl in the beautiful Cape Winelands.
Fizantakraal is the most beautiful opportunity to get onto the road and take a trip to the mountains, whether it’s for a family weekend or a week’s retreat. Spend the day around the pool or on a hike and read a good book by the fire or huddle around the coffee table with a board game after dinner. The farm is totally secluded, a short drive from the Huguenot Tunnel, and up the winding hills of the Du Toit’s Kloof mountains.
Once you have started your descent into the valley and drive up to the farm you will know you’re in for a treat. Picturesque trout dams nestled into the valley and the grand, estate-like drive frames the grounds and the rolling front lawns.
Trout fishing, river swims and more…
The mountains and the grounds of the house invoke the most profound feelings of rugged beauty, relaxation and only the sounds of the birds – and the people with whom you have chosen to share your stay – can be heard.Designed in the style of a traditional Cape lodge, Fizantakraal features spacious and welcoming living areas, a large country-style kitchen and four large en-suite bedrooms, making multigenerational holidays with family so easy. There is a lovely sundeck at one of the dams where you can swim, or cool off on those scorching hot days and take a dip in the river pools.
What we love!
- Fizantakraal’s proximity to Cape Town and the Cape Winelands, yet it feels utterly private and secluded amid the mountains.
- The way the unobtrusive staff run this hideaway like a Swiss watch!
- Taking a bracing swim in the soft, fresh water of the dam.
- The owner’s genuine care, attention to detail and desire to ensure all Fizantakraal’s guests have the most wonderful stay.
What you need to know…
- The farm is off-grid: there is full solar power back-up, so load-shedding goes unnoticed here!
- Fizantakraal has a tar and cement strip road that is suitable for all cars except very low-slung sports models.
- Due to the expanse of open water, only swim-safe children over the age of ten are welcome. Please note that the pool fence shown in some of the images has now been removed.
- Pack all the delicious food you’ll need for your stay, as once you’ve arrived, you won’t want to leave.
- If you’d like to explore the area, it’s always fun to enjoy some wine tasting along the way, depending on your route. The closest wine areas are Paarl and Slanghoek in the Breedekloof Wine Valley or the Worcester Wine and Olive Route, but you could also take a day trip to Wellington or Franschhoek.
- If Fizantakraal isn’t available over your dates, browse our collection of off-grid houses, or others in Paarl.
