The perfect beach accommodation overlooking the ocean
A hacienda-type beach house on the shores of Robberg Beach on Plett’s Beachy Head, Ola Kala is testament to the Garden Route’s diversity as it bursts with colour, charisma and comfort.
When the ships docked on the shores in Greece, back in the day, long, long ago, the sailors would settle themselves on land and utter the words, ‘Ola Kala’, with a long exhale of a breath. That statement over time was abbreviated to OK; everything is going to be just fine. That’s certainly the sentiment you have reverberating around yourself as soon as you arrive at Beachy Head, in Plettenberg Bay. At this incredibly seductive hideaway on the dreamy sands of Robberg Beach. Ola Kala indeed, as we look out to the surf, the mountains in the distance, and the beautiful spaces of the home that gently embrace you in their sublimely stylish attire.
Five glorious bedrooms scatter themselves across the two levels of Ibizan-inspired beach bungalow laidback loveliness, in one of the most desired destinations of Plett. Voluminous open-plan living, dining and entertaining spaces frame the courtyard that’s perfectly cocooned from the elements. The spot to swim and lounge beside the pool, ensconced in the greenery of the garden. There’s a fantastic stretching gym or yoga studio for those that like to maintain the zen. A very generous pyjama lounge and TV room, a bar and games room, long verandahs with languid seating areas, and dining spaces for days! It’s one of those homes that has a way of tickling an inner, frisky childlike fun out of you, imploring you to kick the flip flops off and let the barefoot frolics begin. The layers and layers of luxury, stitched into every aesthetically-inspiring piece of artwork, furnishing, ornament and lighting, just to add to the hedonism that ensues.
A beautiful seaside retreat for the whole family to embrace the blissful beach life
Aside from the typical Plett action of meandering down to the beach and swimming, surfing, sand castle-building and shell collecting. Golf, mountain-trailing, horse riding and biking. Local shopping and beachside café chatting, mussel foraging and nature gallivanting. Aside from all of the wonderful things to do, you’ll be hell-bent on spending as much time as possible, on the comfy sofas and lazy loungers, in one of the gorgeous bedrooms or on the terrace. For many moments of the day, you’ll be skipping around the kitchen, overlooking those majestic views of the ocean in front, as you prepare a feasting fit for a Spanish King who has a penchant for seafood paella. Easy, breezy light tracks beating in the background as you raise your chilled whiskey to the setting sun, make your way down to the dunes and let the music waft through the air, with your own exhale of everything is more than OK. It’s Ola Kala fabulous!
What we love!
- The ambience of the home that is – according to the owner – beautifully tranquil, encapsulating a spiritual energy that’s so calming it makes it very difficult to leave. The perfect positioning of the house also allows for absolute privacy, even though there is direct access to the beach. It’s a great home for entertaining.
- As it faces east, morning sunrises with a hot brew on the upstairs verandah, witnessing the whales and dolphin surf the waves, alongside other family members who have already taken to the SUPs.
- During full moon, after the sun has set and the moon begins to rise – fewer moments of scenic bliss will pass your eyes.
What you need to know…
- The property is located on the revered Beachy Head. It is no more than 6 minutes from the Plettenberg Country Club. You’ll have easy access to all of the convenience stores of Plett, the village antics and Padel courts, forest routes for cyclists and Robberg Peninsula for hikers.
- There is no fence surrounding the property and no protection covering the pool. So while it is perfectly safe, the home is not suited to families travelling with young children.
- If you would like to fish for oysters and mussels you will need a licence or permit secured prior to foraging.
- The kitchen is designed for entertaining. Its ample dining space allows for great gatherings. You’re welcome to bring your own chef along should you wish to take the holiday to the next level. Otherwise, envisage those prawn curries and lamb tagines…cocktail hour on your own holiday clock.
