Serenely settled on the grounds of the esteemed Steenberg Estate – where heritage farmhouses and theatrical, contemporary dwellings open their doors as a luxury hotel and spa with refined restaurants and tasting rooms – Sugarbird is a tranquil place of residence, cushioned into the comforts of this sublime wine farm. Amongst the fine dining and world-class wine quaffing around the foothills of the Constantiaberg mountains, there’s a visually spectacular and technically challenging 18-hole golf course for any avid player to get their clubs out for. The beautiful farm scenery and abounding nature that engulfs the homestead, sets the tone for a remarkably peaceful stay, in a wonderfully secure estate.
Sugarbird lends itself as the perfect place for you and your clan to retreat to, spending as much time as you wish on the magnificent grounds, with all of the neighbouring attractions being just a swift drive away. Its four spacious bedrooms – 3 of which are ensuite – dart themselves down the wings of the home, that flank the central living, dining, cooking and entertaining spaces. Cleverly considered reading nooks and lounging areas, a cosy TV room and secluded resting spots scatter themselves around the home, allowing for ample alone time, as well as the perfect gathering areas for the whole clan. A lovely little courtyard and the front verandah with sun loungers around the swimming pool provide the necessary hours of novel indulging and rays catching. For those that don’t fancy a hike into the mountains or a bike ride along the scenic routes, a round of golf or a visit to the hotel’s spa, you have all that you need in your own Steenberg sanctuary, that’s beautifully layered in luxurious textures and homely tones, resemblant of a stylish farmhouse.
Alongside all of it attributes, this hideaway extends itself as a wonderful base to pivot from, as you explore the Cape’s coastline, the great peninsula, her mountain routes and seaside hamlets. Of course the cosmopolis of the town centre, too, that’s a mere twenty-minute drive away. Being in the heart of the Constantia winelands, you’ll have more than enough feasting and tasting options to conquer the wine wish lists. But for some, it’s also lovely to sit still, marvelling at the mountains, listening to the resident guinea fowl and watching the pin-tailed wydahs sweep around the golfing greens. Going for long walks around the estate, up to the dam and onto the nature trails. It’s all yours for the taking, at your own leisurely pace.
