For the team at Perfect Hideaways, one of the many things that bring us happiness is a fabulous farm! Situated beneath the Hawequa Mountains near Wellington, Boplaas Farm’s Manor House dates from 1890. It was here that we found so many of the things we love… a beautifully layered and detailed interior, classic pieces of antique furniture, slubby linen slipcovers in muted tones. In the kitchen are hand-painted wall tiles by Michael Chandler and a Lacanche stove. In the bedrooms fabrics from Whiteman & Mellor. It’s pretty much a perfect ten! And while you can book just the Manor House for up to eight guests, if you wish to hold a gathering of the clans, add the cottages and you can invite up to twenty guests, making BoPlaas the ideal celebration space!
When the owners decided to renovate the farm’s six cottages, they stuck to the same ethos in terms of beauty and comfort, and created a large, open-plan communal kitchen-dining area in the center of the six, so that guests staying here can dine independently should they wish. However, when there’s a full house and all twenty guests wish to dine together, the wonderful staff get to work setting things up for a gathering at either the Manor House or down at the cottages. There is also the lovely Wine Barn, just across the lawn from the Manor House, where 20 guests can gather for a special celebration.
At BoPlaas one wakens to the sound of the handsome rooster crowing and welcoming in the day. The chickens are out roaming the gardens and laying the most delicious, free-range eggs amongst the flower beds.
Barefoot, with coffee in hand, take a stroll onto the generous verandah and watch the day start, the mist rising over the distant mountains and sunlight spreading across the valley.
Send the children out with baskets to collect eggs for breakfast. Pick organic vegetables from the expansive walled veggie garden. Spend your days lounging by the pool or under the shade of a large tree with the latest bestseller.
This is the kind of place where you feel the knots unfurl and find a new perspective on life. A place for the family to reconnect and spend evenings playing board games together. It’s what farm life is all about… and while we may not be cut out to enjoy it 365 days a year, for a precious respite from busy lives it is the perfect tonic!
What we love!
- The simplicity of farm life, yet with all the comforts of contemporary living!
- Adding fresh farm produce to your feasts.
- The staff on the farm are so lovely, and ready to help with whatever you need in terms of dining arrangements.
- The shady verandah, encouraging those long, lazy lunches that holidays were made for.
- Nestled in the Winelands there are some super spots to explore nearby.
What you need to know…
- You can book the Manor House on its own, sleeping eight, or the Cottages on their own, sleeping twelve. Or book both Manor House and Cottages sleeping twenty. Â
- The Cottages are booked as one property, and you’ll have exclusive use. The Manor House and Cottage are sufficiently far apart to be completely private from each other.
- For a special celebration, the Wine Barn, found across the lawn from the Manor House, can be booked as your event space for an additional fee. There’s one huge table seating twenty and all glassware, crockery, cutlery, placemats, and chairs are provided.Â
- There is strong WiFi at the cottages and communal area, however, at the Manor House the signal is strong only in the dining room.
- There are dirt roads to access the farm – any car will make it, just be prepared for a bumpy ride.
- Those with little people need to be vigilant – the pool does have a net, however there is an open dam, although this is not very close to the house.
- There are two lovely farm dogs who stay at the manager’s house.
