Contemporary coastal elegance
A contemporary beach home that epitomises the essence of luxury seaside living in Yzerfontein, To the Moon and Back is your getaway ticket to West Coast bliss.
Walking through the entrance doors of this magnificent Yzerfontein hideaway, as you pass the ancient aloes that are greeting you upon arrival – like sturdy sentinels of the natural world – an appreciation of its form holds your gaze. With its contemporary, linear contours creating shapes and shadows as you move with the sun’s rays. Towards the endless body of blue that captivates your gaze. Stealing the show – as the architect intended. If it’s not the timber, the screed, the glass or the architectural finesse making statements at every turn, then let it be the landscape.
Two levels of expansive living, entertaining, lounging, reclining, dining, gathering and retreating areas make up this West Coast wonder of a beach home. Floor-to-ceiling doors and windows allow the air to waft through the open spaces like a premeditated indoor-outdoor feature. Ushering in an abundance of natural light, that silhouettes itself into figurines. Dancing across the floors, up the stairways, down the corridors, into the bedrooms, the bathrooms and back out with the waves. It’s not only the sun, but the moon has a way of creating these shapes, too. Bouncing off the polished surfaces.
The courtyard tones the tempo down and is ideally landscaped with the Atlantic breeze in mind. A lot of swimming, snoozing on the lawn, reading on the loungers, enjoying some al fresco dining and just hanging out when the elements are exemplifying their prowess.
Views for days
Every room has been thoughtfully curated. Blending the owners’ stamp of discerned sophistication and familial love, with the ruggedness of the landscape. State-of-the-art finishes and furnishings, appliances and lighting, luxury linens and a neutral colour palette. All create a homely, yet lavish environment to spend your days looking out to sea. With Dassen Island being across the waves, you can watch the lighthouse pivot its torch at night. And the bird colonies fly in their flocks from the sanctuary to the shoreline in front. Witnessing the whales’ migration and the dolphin swim in their pods on mass. The gulls circling above, retrieving any remnants of the ocean’s commotion. It’s an ever-changing spectacle at the villa, with an endless array of activities to dive into.
When in Yzerfontein, you ride your bikes, walk the beaches, skip past the occasional ostrich and surf with the seals. You’ll swim in the tidal pools and forage for mussels. You’ll bond around the fireplaces and perform seafood cook-offs in the kitchen. You’ll take those long afternoon naps whilst the kids play in their own playroom. You’ll breathe in that ocean air and bask in that African sun and love every moment of your wild West Coast adventure, To the Moon & Back!
