Distilled first in 1879 from the winter wheat grown around Åhus, the old vodka distillery still exists today in this medieval town. Geographically closer to Copenhagen than Stockholm, it’s a more popular weekend escape for Danes than Swedes, but both enjoy restored castles and stately homes that dot farmlands, or the waterfront and marina that fills with wooden sailing boats in summer.
